Eating a greater amount of protein and less carbs is a great way to lose weight over the short term, but cannot be used on a long term basis. The body needs a balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to be healthy.
Since high protein diets are full of mostly low carbohydrate foods, the calories that you are getting are usually low. In order to keep your body from going into starvation mode, you must increase the amount of proteins you eat.
A high protein diet not only speeds up the process of fat burning, but also keeps you from losing muscle in the process. Since your body has to work harder to digest, use, and process protein, as compared to fats or carbohydrates, your metabolism is sped up. Eating too much of any type of food can be then stored as fat, but proteins are much less likely to be stored as fat.
If you are using a high protein diet plan, you must drink a greater amount of water than you normally do. This is because when you are metabolizing protein, it needs more water to do so than fats or carbohydrates. Since the normal amount you need to drink is eight glasses a day, you need to drink more than this while on a high protein diet.
For temporary fat loss, a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates is a great way to start your fat loss program. After using this type of diet for a couple of weeks, you need to change it up and eat a more balanced diet filled with different healthy foods to achieve your weight loss goals and remain healthy.
