How to Make Your Lap Band Surgery Successful
January 14, 2011 No CommentsYou probably already know that there are many different options out there when you are seeking ways to lose weight. You have probably tried most of them, and are considering the lap band procedure to finally take the weight off and keep it off. While it can be a wonderful weight loss tool, like anything, success is never guaranteed. Lap band surgery can fail if you do not follow the instructions given by your doctor after you have the procedure.
It is important to realize that unlike other surgeries, the lap band procedure is much faster and less complex, so the chances that a failure will occur with placement of the band is very small. However, there are some things that you will need to do in order to see success with the lap band procedure. Your doctor will tell you that although you can have tremendous success with this procedure, it isn’t a cure all. You cannot have the procedure done and think you can eat whatever you want and still lose weight. To lose the most weight, you will need to change the way you exercise and eat healthy foods.
If you choose not to follow the doctor’s advice, and eat fatty foods loaded with calories, then the procedure is pointless, and it will not work for you. You will not lose the weight you have been trying to lose, and you will be back to square one. So, whether or not you succeed of fail with this method will be dependent on you, and your desire to really change your lifestyle regarding exercise and eating habits.
If you are someone that before the procedure didn’t get any exercise, then this will have to be adjusted. You will need to get out and move more, whether it be with walking, aerobics, weight lifting, or strength training. In addition, you will need to cut out the fatty and processed foods from your diet as well. You should instead eat whole foods that are full of vitamins and minerals, like salads, fruits, and whole grains. You will need to avoid high sugar foods and drinks, and too many carbohydrates as well.
The success or failure of the lap band procedure is pretty much entirely in your own hands. If you change your lifestyle, and eat better and start to exercise more, the weight will come off, and you will have a greater self esteem and healthier body. If you do not change your habits, and continue to eat foods that are loaded with calories and fat, you will not lose the weight you are trying to, and the procedure would have been a waste of time and money. Before you decide on getting the Lap band procedure, be ready for the lifestyle changes that are needed first.
